After a thrilling duel in the first half of the Grand Prix, George Russell’s W17 stopped in the thirtieth lap. Kimi Antonelli, who had put pressure on his teammate throughout the race, moved up to P1 as a result. A visibly frustrated Russell got out of the car and angrily hit the chassis several times. In the virtual World Championship standings, the Brit – who was considered a title favorite beforehand – remains second for now. If Antonelli wins the Canadian GP, the gap between the two Mercedes drivers will grow to 43 World Championship points: 131 for Antonelli versus 88 for Russell.
