Williams is experiencing a lot of disappointing results this year. The British constructor had high expectations for the new regulations but has so far only managed to gather a meager eleven points. Team principal James Vowles expects little progress, even with the announced updates for the Azerbaijan GP.
As a guest on The Fast And The Curious podcast, Vowles shed light on the new package of updates that Williams will use in Baku. He also addressed the problems the car currently faces. The 47-year-old sees that the problem with the FW48 is not easily fixed.
“It’s a tough year and it will remain so until the end,” concludes Vowles. “There is no other way to look at the situation. Many mistakes we made during the winter period will stay with us until the last race. The only thing we are trying to do is keep ourselves afloat until we have the next car at our disposal.”

“We can still make small steps this year, but this is far from enough to reach the minimum we want: scoring points,” says Vowles. “That is simply the reality that we are not there yet. Will we be further forward next year? Yes, but it is also difficult to go further back. We will move forward somewhat, but it will still be a tough season.”
Williams is currently ninth in the constructors’ standings with eleven points. Only Aston Martin (3) and Cadillac (0) have scored fewer points. The team’s best result was an eighth place in Monaco with Alex Albon.
