Although only the first qualifying sessions have started at the Nordschleife Nürburgring, the first crash has already occurred. The #900 Porsche, in which the Dutchman Paul Meijer is also driving, had to pull over when smoke appeared in the car. Driver Alexander Hardt was able to get out in time before flames erupted from under the car. Yellow flags were waved, but for Porsche #146 it was too late. Driver Janina Schall had nowhere to go and crashed full force into the burning car.

Fortunately, both drivers remained unharmed in the incident, but their cars suffered significant damage. Debris also flew across the track, causing the race control to decide to implement a slow zone. Max Verstappen – who was already active early in the qualifying session and set a fast time – was in the pit lane at that moment.
