Max Verstappen reveals that he would have liked to participate in a second 24-hour endurance race this season as well. The Dutchman will make his debut at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in May, but he would also have liked to race the 24 Hours of Spa. Unfortunately for Verstappen, this 24-hour race takes place on the same weekend as the Austrian GP. ‘If there is any chance to race, I gladly take it,’ says the world champion.

During the spring break, Max Verstappen once again swapped his Red Bull RB22 for the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and took part in the qualifying races at the Nürburgring. During the weekend on the Nordschleife, there were qualifying spots available for the Top Q3 – as if in Formula 1 cars directly advance to Q3 of qualifying – but the team of the four-time world champion could not secure these. As a result, Verstappen faces a longer route to the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, which starts on Saturday, May 16.
24 Hours of Spa
Verstappen is participating for the first time in the iconic 24-hour race. It immediately whetted his appetite for more, as the world champion told the media in Miami that he would like to take part in more races outside Formula 1. However, the packed Grand Prix calendar leaves little room for that. “Of course, I want to do more, but it also depends a bit on the calendar,” Verstappen explains. “If, for example, there had been a free weekend for the 24 Hours of Spa, I would have already participated this year. So if there is any chance to race, I gladly take it.”

The 24 Hours of Spa is held on the same weekend as the Austrian GP at the end of June. Three weeks later, Formula 1 itself travels to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for the Belgian GP.
