Daniel Juncadella, one of Max Verstappen’s teammates during the upcoming 24 Hours of Nürburgring, sees the FIA applying double standards. The Spanish WEC driver refers to the notable moment during the Miami GP when Lewis Hamilton gave the middle finger to Franco Colapinto. The Brit was not penalized for the moment, while Juncadella had to pay a fine for a similar action during a WEC race. ‘The FIA’s double standard, it never fails,’ said the driver.
Soon after the Miami GP, footage of a frustrated Lewis Hamilton went viral. The Brit raised his middle finger to Franco Colapinto after the chaotic start in which the Argentine had collided with the Brit’s Ferrari. Hamilton – who, partly thanks to the time penalty of teammate Charles Leclerc, still finished sixth – estimated after the race that the damage to his car probably cost him half a second per lap.
The seven-time world champion was not summoned by the FIA for the moment, which surprised Daniel Juncadella. Juncadella is one of Max Verstappen’s teammates during the upcoming 24 Hours of Nürburgring and was fined €5,000 for a similar action. The Spanish driver gave the middle finger to rival Augusto Farfus during the 2025 World Endurance Championship (WEC) final in Bahrain. The stewards described Juncadella’s action as “rude, disrespectful, and completely inappropriate in motorsport.”
Juncadella responds
In a post on his X account, the WEC driver responded to Hamilton’s moment. “Here I understand there was no penalty, right?” can be read in Spanish. “The FIA’s double standard, it never fails.” To the suggestion that the moment was not a big deal, he replied: “No, I think it’s fine that he does that. But then give him a €2,000 fine, just like I got.”
aquí entiendo que no hubo multa no? La doble vara de medir de la FIA… No falla 🙂
