A striking mistake during the race weekend in Canada has further fueled speculation around Jonathan Wheatley and Aston Martin. At the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, images suddenly appeared of a parking sign linking the name of the former Red Bull top executive to the team from Silverstone. Wheatley parted ways with Audi in March but has since been frequently linked to a return to Aston Martin.

An F1 photographer shared images this week of a reserved parking spot with the text ‘Jonathan Wheatley Aston Martin’. “This sign appeared today in the team principal’s parking lot here in Montreal,” he wrote on his Instagram account. “Is Jonathan Wheatley now officially the team principal of Aston Martin, or is this just a mistake? Either way, it’s fascinating.”
Relieving Newey
Wheatley – former sporting director of Red Bull and briefly Audi team principal – is said to have been considered by several teams after his departure from the German manufacturer. Now that Adrian Newey holds a leading role at Aston Martin, Wheatley might join a strengthened management structure in Silverstone. His potential arrival would create space for Newey to refocus on engineering and development. According to insiders, Newey supports bringing in Wheatley as soon as the Brit is free to join a competitor.

The organization behind the circuit has since responded to the commotion. The promoter apologized for what was described as a ‘printing error’. “We are aware of the printing error that occurred yesterday,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “The issue has now been resolved. We sincerely apologize for any confusion this may have caused.”
