Winner George Russell was not only happy after the sprint race in Montreal, but also diplomatic. When teammate Kimi Antonelli claimed afterwards that he was pushed off the track by the Englishman, the latter just let it go. “It was a nice duel.”

Still, there will be a serious talk within Mercedes. Antonelli had a point with his criticism of Russell. Russell did not want to engage with that. “I’m mainly glad that we both came out of the race unscathed,” was his first reaction after the finish. “And happy with the win.”
Russell needed that after a bad weekend in Miami, where he saw Antonelli win for the third time in four GPs. The sprint pole and win do the Briton good, although he only gained two points on the Italian. It helped Russell that Lando Norris in the McLaren finished second.

“The result offers hope for this afternoon’s qualifying. I’m looking forward to that, as well as the race on Sunday. Because we’ve had a long break and now we can get back into the rhythm with six GPs in eight weeks.”
