Laurens van Hoepen crashed his car into the wall at the end of the training session. The Dutchman lost control of his Trident in turn 13 of the new circuit in Madrid and then ended up stuck against the wall.

Despite the crash, the Dutchman finished sixth. Van Hoepen was half a second behind Nikola Tsolov, who was fastest with a 1:47.059. The Bulgarian leads the championship by eleven points ahead of second place Rafael Câmara.
