McLaren driver Oscar Piastri hopes that teammate Lando Norris is right with the remark that Max Verstappen might stay in Formula 1 longer than many think. “It would be a shame for the sport if Max were to leave F1,” the Australian says.

Like Norris, Piastri made his statements on Wednesday at a meeting with the international media. He calls Verstappen a figurehead and someone he enjoys competing against. “You want to race against the best drivers, prove yourself. Max has shown his enormous level in the past ten years. Especially in the last five or six years, he has been the absolute benchmark in our sport.”

And according to Piastri, a departure would not be good for F1. “It would be a shame if he left the sport. Let’s hope he stays.”

With his comments, he not only joins teammate Norris but also Mercedes rival George Russell. Russell also said last week when asked that he hopes Verstappen stays after this year.
