Nigel Mansell hopes that Lewis Hamilton manages to win his coveted eighth driver’s title with Ferrari. The acclaimed Brit has not competed for the championship since 2021. Moreover, his move to Ferrari brought him little success last year. However, in the current F1 season, Hamilton seems to be coming alive; in Shanghai, he stood on the podium with the Scuderia for the first time. “He is fully recharged,” Mansell judges.

The former champion – who won his only world title with Williams in 1992 – was recently a guest on a Sky Sports broadcast, where he analyzed the current F1 championship. “I’m going to be romantic: I would like to see Lewis (Hamilton, ed.) win the championship,” he grinned. “Someone like Norris still has many years ahead; he can definitely still win a title. So yes, come on, Lewis,” Mansell addressed the British star. “It would be something so special. You have already achieved so much, just finish it now.”
Hamilton in top form
“Lewis is back in top form,” the former champion continued. “I am a huge fan. He has had a brilliant career and what he is doing now is fantastic. He is fully recharged. Moreover, Ferrari did an excellent job in the winter; they are well positioned, although Mercedes is of course the favorite.” Based on the first races in Melbourne, Shanghai, and Suzuka, Hamilton must for now tolerate the faster Silberpfeile ahead of him.

However, Mansell sees opportunities when the F1 regulations might be adjusted. “I think it could get very exciting by the time we are in Silverstone, especially if the regulations are changed,” he looked ahead. “I hope for an epic race with six or seven drivers having a chance to win. That is just great.” Hamilton can break his own record if he wins for the tenth time during his home race.
