After the success of F1: The Movie, the successful blockbuster starring Brad Pitt, Formula 1 will soon return to the big screen. Actress Margot Robbie confirmed this week that the upcoming prequel to the Hollywood classic Ocean’s Eleven is set during the 1962 Monaco GP. Robbie, together with director Bradley Cooper, presumably plays a criminal couple who commit a heist during ‘the crown jewel’.

While Ocean’s Eleven – the well-known heist film starring George Clooney as the cunning con artist Danny Ocean – is set in the Las Vegas of the 2000s, this prequel goes back forty years in time. The film is not about Ocean himself, but about his parents. “Before Danny Ocean ever set foot in Las Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows: his parents,” Margot Robbie revealed this week in an exclusive trailer for CinemaCon. “At their peak, they commit an epic heist during the 1962 Monaco GP.”

Robbie and co-star Bradley Cooper, who also directs the film, likely portray Danny Ocean’s parents. The project is being filmed this year and does not yet have an official title. The film is expected to be released in theaters in 2027. Small roles may also be written for the various F1 drivers who made a name for themselves in Monaco in 1962. For example, Jim Clark achieved his first pole position in the top class at that time, and Graham Hill narrowly missed out on his first victory in the principality. Bruce McLaren, Phil Hill, and Lorenzo Bandini finished respectively in P1, P2, and P3.
