Formula 1 rights holder Liberty Media has announced the financial results for the second quarter of 2026. The American F1 owner posted a significant loss on the premier class compared to a year ago: revenue dropped by as much as 38% compared to 2025. It should be noted, however, that there were also four fewer races held than in the same period twelve months ago.

Liberty Media – the owner and rights holder of Formula 1 – published the financial report for the second quarter of 2026 last Thursday. It reveals a significant setback for the American rights holder: Formula 1 revenue fell by 38% compared to a year ago. Operating profit declined by 61%, partly due to the cancellation of four races compared to the same period in 2025.
The loss of Liberty Media is also clearly reflected in the concrete figures. Between April and June 2025, Formula 1 revenue was still 1.22 billion dollars, while a year later in the same period it was 764 million dollars. Operating profit meanwhile fell from 293 million to 73 million dollars.

Distorted picture
It should be noted, however, that the figures are strongly distorted by the changed composition of the F1 calendar in the second quarter. Five races were held between April and June 2026, compared to nine in the same period of 2025. This is due both to an adjusted calendar and the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Grands Prix due to the war in the Middle East. The expectation is that Formula 1 will get back on the right financial track in the second half of 2026 – partly due to the return of the Bahrain GP to the calendar, but this time organized in Malaysia.
