F1-CEO Domenicali cheers after GP Miami: ‘The races are really exciting’

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali describes the recent Miami GP as a ‘truly wonderful Grand Prix’. The first American race weekend of the season was also the first race since the introduction of the rule changes. Although some drivers – like Max Verstappen – feel the adjustments do not go far enough yet, Domenicali is satisfied: ‘The races are really exciting’.

The Miami GP was the first race weekend since the introduction of F1 rule changes last April. The adjustments to the regulations were intended, among other things, to allow drivers to push harder during qualifying sessions again. However, Max Verstappen was not yet satisfied with the rule changes: “If you give more throttle in certain corners, it still slows down on the straight,” he explained to the media present in Miami.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali did enjoy racing at the Miami International Autodrome. “In a very special weekend, due to the sad passing of Alex Zanardi, it was a truly wonderful Grand Prix,” the Italian told Sky Sports. “People here in America are beginning to understand what Formula 1 is really about. There is an interest that shows the scale of our sport, a sport that always looks forward. I am very happy about that.”

Domenicali is also proud of how Formula 1 continues to look ahead and how motorsport keeps evolving, despite criticism of the new rules earlier this season: “We are resilient. At first, everyone has something to say about it, but in the end, there is always someone who has to draw the conclusion,” he continues. “Of course, there is continuous evolution, but that has always been a part of Formula 1. Together with all parties involved in shaping the rules, we try to take into account changing trends and developments, but at this moment we focus on the fact that the races are really exciting.”
