Doriane Pin became the first female driver to test a Mercedes F1 car last April. The F1 Academy champion – and now development driver for the Silver Arrows – made history in the 2021 Mercedes car during a test day at Silverstone. Lewis Hamilton competed for the title with Max Verstappen in the same car and is happy for Pin that she got to take her first laps in this car.
‘Nice to see’
“I still remember when I first got to drive a Formula 1 car myself,” Hamilton starts for the cameras of F1TV. “It’s really an amazing feeling. To make the dream you had as a child come true like that. I followed it closely and I think it’s great that Doriane got the chance to drive at Silverstone. It’s also great to see my old car back on the track.”

The seven-time world champion closely follows Pin’s career. “I have been following her for a few years, when she was still in the F1 Academy. It’s nice to see her growth as a driver. She has so much power. I look forward to seeing what her next step is.”
