Driver Juha Miettinen killed in serious accident at the Nürburgring

Today, things turned deadly serious at the Nürburgring. During the first qualifying race for the Nürburgring 24 Hours, in which Max Verstappen also participated, Juha Miettinen (66) died after a serious accident in the early stages of the race.

The incident, involving seven cars, occurred early in the race. Race Control immediately intervened and stopped the race to make way for emergency services. Miettinen, who was driving a BMW, was taken to the Medical Centre. All attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful. He died on the spot.

The six other drivers involved were taken to the Medical Centre and surrounding hospitals for examination. None of them are in life-threatening condition. The race will not be resumed on Saturday evening. On Sunday, a minute of silence will be observed at the starting grid of the next race in memory of Miettinen.
