The hearing on the result of the GP Monaco has just concluded, and another appeal is already on its way. Audi disagrees with the decision of the FIA stewards at Monza not to penalize Yuki Tsunoda for causing an extra formation lap. The team is therefore appealing.

The moment that the FIA still needs to review according to Audi came right at the start of the GP Italy. Yuki Tsunoda caused a second formation lap when he placed his Racing Bulls car incorrectly in the correct box on the starting grid. Race director Rui Marques decided to abort the start so that the Japanese driver could park correctly in the starting box a lap later.
After the race, the incident was examined, but the stewards decided to spare Tsunoda the usual stop-and-go penalty. According to Marques, his decision to go for a second formation lap was mainly out of caution. A driver who causes an extra formation lap must, according to the regulations, then start from the pit lane. However, Racing Bulls did not know that the second formation lap was caused by Tsunoda and therefore could not tell the driver that he should have started from the pit lane.

Audi appeals
Audi has now decided to proceed with an appeal against this decision. Because Tsunoda was not penalized, Gabriel Bortoleto finished just outside the points behind the Japanese driver at Monza. According to Motorsport.com, the situation is clear for Audi: according to the regulations, Tsunoda – as the cause of a second formation lap – should have started from the pit lane. Audi would at least hope to get clarity on the situation through the appeal.
