Yuki Tsunoda was informed the day before the Grand Prix weekend at Zandvoort that he could jump back into a Formula 1 car after eight months. The Japanese driver grabbed this opportunity with both hands. However, he quickly adapted and almost scored points during the main race. Tsunoda also has a clear message for the various F1 teams: “They should definitely call me.”
Yuki Tsunoda got back into a Formula 1 car this weekend for the first time in eight months. The Japanese driver faced a big challenge right away with a sprint weekend ahead, but finished eleventh, just missing out on points. For a long time, Tsunoda seemed on track to finish in the top ten, a result he is quite proud of himself.
“Honestly, I think I have made faster progress than I expected,” said a cheerful Tsunoda after the race to the attending media. “Since the last race in Abu Dhabi, I have only driven four times in eight months, so given those circumstances, I did quite well. Thanks to Red Bull, I have stayed quite sharp with the simulator and such. But overall, I definitely enjoyed it. I just went all out one hundred percent and think I did pretty well.”

‘Teams should call me’
The temporary Racing Bulls driver also describes his performances on the Zandvoort circuit as ‘positive’. During the sprint race, Tsunoda was still thirteenth. “So now it’s up to my manager and the other teams that have not yet made a decision about the lineup for next year, whether they want me or not,” the Japanese driver immediately applies. “But they definitely should. They should definitely call me.”
