Enjoying the last Dutch Grand Prix for the foreseeable future; Verstappen and his fans in the stands were not granted that on Sunday. In the opening lap, things went wrong, the four-time world champion hit the wall hard coming out of the last corner. “It was quite a big hit, that really hit me.”
He said afterwards that he thought he could get on the gas. “I was caught off guard, I went a bit too early.” That he was able to get out unscathed was the most important thing. “How many G-forces the impact was? I don’t know.”

The last Dutch GP weekend was disappointing anyway according to Verstappen. “I couldn’t fight with the drivers in front of me, but of course I would have liked to have raced. Rain wouldn’t have really helped me either. Hopefully we are more competitive in Monza than here. And I look forward to hopefully recovering a bit now, because I didn’t feel fit this week anyway.”
