Lewis Hamilton has started a crucial tire test for Pirelli in Maranello. The Italian tire supplier wanted to test the wet tires in Bahrain earlier this year, but had to cancel these days due to the outbreak of the war in the Middle East. The test days at Ferrari’s Fiorano circuit are therefore crucial for Pirelli.

While Formula 1 has been startled by the announced departure of Max Verstappen’s regular race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase from Red Bull, Ferrari is busy with a crucial tire test for Pirelli. The Italian tire supplier ‘hired’ Lewis Hamilton on Thursday to test the wet tires. The test day takes place at Ferrari’s home circuit Fiorano, where Pirelli can artificially wet the track.
The test program has been put together by Pirelli, meaning Ferrari is not allowed to evaluate any new upgrades at the same time. The test days for the wet tires were previously scheduled for March this year in Bahrain, but were canceled due to the outbreak of the war in the Middle East. On Friday, Charles Leclerc will be in action for the second test day. Ferrari remains busy during the unexpected spring break, and also has a filming day planned for April 22 at Monza.
