Helmut Marko returns to Formula 1 for a one-off appearance. The Austrian said goodbye to his Red Bull racing team last December, but will return to the paddock for a one-off appearance during his home race, the Austrian GP, as an ambassador for the Red Bull Ring.
Helmut Marko said goodbye to Formula 1 last December after the Abu Dhabi GP. The Austrian was an advisor to the Red Bull team for many years and headed the team’s junior program. It was also Marko who discovered Max Verstappen during his karting days and brought him to Red Bull.

However, the former advisor will return to Formula 1 once this season as an ambassador for the Red Bull Ring during the Austrian GP. Marko is expected to be seen in the paddock for the first time since his retirement. It is still unclear exactly what the Austrian will do during his home race weekend. Marko’s announced return comes in the midst of turbulent times at his former employer. On Thursday it was announced that Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen’s regular race engineer, will move to McLaren after 2027. The Austrian Grand Prix takes place on Sunday, June 28.
