Ferrari has unveiled the special race suits that Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will wear during the upcoming Italian GP at Monza. The Scuderia is paying tribute to Michael Schumacher, who last raced for Ferrari at the home circuit twenty years ago. Earlier, the team hinted at a special livery for the Italian Grand Prix, inspired by the F310, the car with which Schumacher secured his first Ferrari victory.

Twenty years ago, Schumacher achieved his last F1 victory at Monza for the Italian fans. He would later celebrate one more triumph in China, his last in the top class. However, in Italy, the German had already announced that he would retire from the sport at the end of the season. Twenty years later, Ferrari takes the opportunity to reflect on his impressive legacy at the Italian racing team.
Important legacy
The special race suits of Hamilton and Leclerc feature the Michael Schumacher logo. On the back, there are also seven stars, referring to the seven world championships Schumacher won during his F1 career. “We honor an important legacy,” Ferrari wrote on social media. “These are our special race suits for Monza, inspired by Michael Schumacher’s impact on the racing world.”

The race weekend at Monza also has a second important link to Schumacher. This year marks thirty years since the German achieved his first victory for Ferrari. That win came in 1996 during the Spanish GP in Barcelona, in his first season for the Scuderia. Reportedly, the SF-26 will receive a new livery in Italy, with which Ferrari clearly wants to refer to the F310, the car with which Schumacher secured his first victory for the team. Ferrari has already shown the historic F1 car several times in videos on social media over the past week.
