Team Verstappen through to second Top Qualifying session Nürburgring with fifth time

Max Verstappen’s team has advanced to the second qualifying session for the top class at the Nürburgring. After the qualifying sessions on Thursday for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, today’s program features the battle for pole position for the endurance race. But before that can happen, the #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3 must get through the first two Top Qualifying sessions. This mission has already been partly successful thanks to the fifth fastest time by Verstappen’s teammate Lucas Auer during Top Quali 1.

Max Verstappen left the first top qualifying to his teammate Lucas Auer. The Austrian was immediately on the track, but halfway through the first important session, he was only in twelfth place. Only the twenty fastest cars qualify for Top Qualifying 2, so the #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3 was not yet safe.

During his second fast lap, Auer improved and drove to the provisional fourth fastest time. In the last minutes of the first Top Quali, the Austrian even took the provisional third place; he was about nine tenths slower than provisional leader Nicky Catsburg. Unfortunately, two more teams went under Auer’s time, so the #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3 finished fifth. Team Verstappen has thus advanced to the second qualifying session for the top class at the Nürburgring. Verstappen himself will be back in action in Top Qualifying 2.
