After the Miami GP, Formula 1 will be on a two-week break, but Max Verstappen does have an important race on the schedule: on the weekend of May 16 and 17, the Dutchman will make his debut at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Together with teammates Daniel Juncadella, Lucas Auer, and Jules Gounon, he will compete in the top class on the infamous German circuit. Curious when they will be in action? Verstappen has been looking forward to his 24-hour debut for a long time. In the past, he has already competed in the virtual 24 Hours of Nürburgring, but he has never physically started the endurance classic before. The Dutchman has therefore prepared thoroughly with numerous training sessions and participation in the NLS2. In April, he also got the chance to participate in the qualifying races due to the cancellation of the Saudi Arabian GP.
The race weekend at the Nürburgring starts on Thursday, with two qualifying sessions in the afternoon and evening. All participants must complete at least two laps during these sessions. The results have no direct consequences for Verstappen’s team, which – because it competes in the top class – must qualify through the Top Qualis on Friday. The Top Qualis resemble the qualifying sessions in Formula 1: the twenty fastest cars advance to Top Q2, after which another twelve cars can secure a spot in Top Q3. There, the battle for pole position takes place. Both sessions last about 35 minutes.
