Red Bull officially confirmed on Tuesday that Tom McCullough is joining the team. The experienced engineer previously announced his departure from Aston Martin and will join the Austrian racing team from 2027. He will take on the role of Head of Racing, succeeding Gianpiero Lambiase. Lambiase combined this role with his regular duties as Max Verstappen’s race engineer but will eventually move to McLaren.

McCullough has been one of the key figures within Aston Martin’s organization in recent years. He announced his departure in early August, after which he was quickly linked to Red Bull. The arrival of the 50-year-old Brit fits into a broader reorganization within Red Bull’s ranks. Under the leadership of CEO and team principal Laurent Mekies, several key figures have left recently, while at the same time a lot of new talent has been recruited.
McCullough is considered a logical candidate to take over a significant part of Lambiase’s current duties. His experience at the pit wall and his many years of work in Formula 1 make him a well-established name in the paddock. He began his F1 career at Williams and later worked at Sauber. He then moved to Force India, where he became a mainstay within the organization. McCullough also continued to play an important role during the transition to Racing Point and later Aston Martin.

“We are delighted to welcome Tom (McCullough, ed.) to the team from 2027,” Red Bull wrote on social media. “We look forward to the vast experience he brings to his new role.”
