Max Verstappen could not help but be satisfied with his second place after the first F1 race at the Madring, behind World Championship leader Kimi Antonelli. That was the maximum result, acknowledged the four-time world champion from Red Bull immediately after the Spanish GP.
“If you look at the race pace this was a good result. Lando had bad luck at the start of the race with the VSC situation. P2 is an incredible result for us. You could see that Lando was faster in his car, but here you simply cannot overtake,” Max Verstappen said immediately after the race on the grid in Madrid.
Verstappen had already indicated before the race that overtaking on the new Madring is very difficult and that proved true on Sunday during the 57-lap race. In the final phase, Norris pressured Verstappen, but he was able to defend easily. Verstappen on that: “It was a matter of keeping the car in the middle, that works quite well here. And I tried to keep the grip in the tires, that was perhaps the hardest part in the last stint.”
