Williams reserve driver Luke Browning gets another chance to get behind the wheel of an F1 car during the Italian GP. The 23-year-old Brit will take part in the first free practice at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Alex Albon’s FW48. It will be his second FP1 appearance of the season and his sixth in total for Williams. “I learn something new every session,” Browning said enthusiastically.

Browning already drove a full free practice session with the new generation F1 cars earlier this season in Austria. According to Williams, that experience is of great value for his further development and his work in the simulator. In addition, the knowledge gained helps the team in Grove with the further development of the FW48. With Browning’s appearance, Williams also complies with the second mandatory rookie test of the season.
Valuable lessons
For Browning, the free practice is a supplement to his activities as a test and reserve driver. This season, the Brit also competes for Team Kondo Racing in Super Formula, Japan’s premier racing class. The experience he gains in various racing classes should help him further in his development towards Formula 1. During the recent Dutch GP at Zandvoort, he also worked as a commentator; on behalf of F1TV, he reported from the trackside.

Browning looks forward to this new opportunity in Monza. “I am very happy to get another chance to drive an FP1 session for Williams,” he said in a statement. “It is a great opportunity to complete valuable laps in the FW48, increase my knowledge of the car, and gather useful data and feedback. I learn something new every session and I want to use all those lessons to further my personal development and that of the team. This weekend is about supporting Williams and achieving the best possible result in Monza.”
