Lando Norris seems to be the next top driver to commit to one F1 team for the long term. The Brit is reportedly working on a contract extension that will keep him at McLaren for years to come. In doing so, Norris would be following the example of Max Verstappen, who signed a new deal with Red Bull ahead of his last home race at Zandvoort. The Dutchman extended for two years and will remain in Milton Keynes until 2030.

Various sources report that Norris’ current contract, which runs until 2027, includes an option to extend the partnership until 2028. According to ESPN, however, the reigning world champion is negotiating an even longer commitment with McLaren, including a significant salary increase. F1 drivers’ salaries have already risen sharply in recent years; business magazine Forbes reported last year that top earners Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen had earned more than 70 million dollars in 2025.

Norris, now a proven world champion and the face of McLaren, reportedly wants to extend his contract beyond 2030, writes ESPN. The sports platform reports that the Brit can count on a significant salary increase, although the exact amounts are not known. As reigning champion and multiple race winner in 2026, Norris has a strong negotiating position. It is therefore not inconceivable that he can secure a salary comparable to that of Verstappen and Hamilton. McLaren also wants to further strengthen its position in Formula 1, with Norris as a key figure.

If the 26-year-old driver, like Max Verstappen, remains under contract until 2030, he would drive twelve consecutive seasons for the team from Woking. This would equal the record of Lewis Hamilton, who drove twelve seasons for Mercedes. Verstappen, however, will far surpass that milestone: if he completes his new Red Bull contract, he will reach fifteen seasons with the team. A long marriage, as he admitted in Zandvoort.
