Laurent Mekies is positive about the steps Red Bull has made. The Frenchman is happy with the podium for Max Verstappen and concludes in an interview with Viaplay that the car is getting better. The team principal of Verstappen also indicates that there is still uncertainty surrounding the return of Isack Hadjar.

Mekies is very satisfied with the podium in Italy. “We are very happy with third place. We are not as fast as Mercedes yet, but we are not far off either. The good news is that we were fast enough to keep the McLarens and Ferraris behind us. This was our best race pace in a long time.”
Areas for improvement
Still, Mekies is not completely satisfied with his team’s performance. “Of course, not everything is perfect yet and we will only be content again when we are at the front, but we have made a big step compared to Zandvoort. We have several small problems with the car that hinder our speed and this is more severe on some tracks than on others. We know where we can gain time and that is a good opportunity to get closer.”

Mekies also praises Verstappen. “Max made great overtakes today and drove very strongly. He fought in the way we all love him for.”
Next week Red Bull has to get to work again at the new Madrid circuit. Whether Isack Hadjar will be there is still unknown. “It looks difficult for now, but we will review it with the doctors in a few days. The priority is that he fully recovers. We know how good he is and what he can do, so it is important that he returns to the car one hundred percent fit.”
