Max Verstappen can count on the support of Lando Norris during the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. The Englishman has closely followed the GT3 exploits of his F1 colleague in recent months. Last month, after a tire test on the Grand Prix layout of the Nürburgring, Norris also got the chance to drive a lap on the Nordschleife himself. “That was the most fun I’ve had all year,” he admitted.

The media in Miami asked Norris about his ‘tourist lap’ around the infamous German circuit. After the Pirelli tire test, the reigning F1 champion got into a McLaren road car for a trip to the Nordschleife. “It was the most fun I’ve had all year,” he said enthusiastically. “It was really amazing. Also because it’s a circuit I’ve been practicing on in the simulator for years. It’s the kind of track everyone just wants to drive on once, whether you’re a driver or not.”
‘Have seen everything’
“I don’t think it matters what car you drive on this circuit, you probably always have fun,” he continued. “In a McLaren it was scary and fun at the same time,” Norris grinned, “but it was cool to tick this off my list. Although I’ve been in Formula 1 for years and have been to the Nürburgring countless times, this was my first chance to really experience the Nordschleife.” Friend and fellow driver Max Verstappen will participate in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in mid-May. The Dutchman can count on Norris’s support, who has closely followed his Nordschleife adventures.

“I have seen all the onboards and already knew the track by heart,” Norris explained. “So although it was the first time, it felt like I already knew the circuit. I also watched all the GT races Max has driven.” On the question whether he will cheer for Verstappen in May: “I will watch, maybe not the full 24 hours, but as much as possible. And I will cheer for Max, because I have a lot of respect for what he does. I have enjoyed watching him in action over the past weeks, also in the battles with Christopher Haase. It’s really cool to follow him, so I will definitely watch.”
