Lando Norris reveals plans for Formula E test: ‘Can always learn something from it’

Lando Norris talks about his plans to swap his MCL40 once for a Formula E car. The Brit was at the electric racing series race in Monaco last weekend, where Nyck de Vries triumphed. Norris himself also wanted to get behind the wheel: ‘You can always learn things by talking to and listening to drivers who are at the top of this class’.

While Max Verstappen traveled to the Nordschleife to participate for the first time in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, many of his Formula 1 colleagues were present at the Formula E race in Monaco. Gabriel Bortoleto, Carlos Sainz, Nico Hülkenberg, Oliver Bearman, and Lando Norris were there, as well as former Red Bull team boss Christian Horner. Norris was especially enthusiastic about his visit to the electric racing series.

“I grew up with many of these guys or have raced with them,” Norris told the official Formula E channels. “The level of the drivers here is top class – it doesn’t get any better than this. You’re looking at a racing series with top-class athletes, some of the best in the world – it’s something I enjoy watching a lot and would like to be part of.”

The comparison between Formula E and Formula 1 was frequently made at the start of the current season. Under the 2026 rules, the power unit consists of fifty percent electric energy, which means drivers – to optimally use this battery during sessions – had to learn a different way of driving. “This is Formula E on steroids,” Verstappen concluded after the test days in Bahrain.

Formula E test for Norris?

However, Norris still sees a trip to Formula E as a possibility. “I was planning to drive a bit in a Formula E car at some point,” Norris said. “I have spoken with Jake (Dennis, Formula E driver for Andretti, ed.) and a few other guys who have raced here. Not everything is the same between Formula 1 and Formula E, but you can always learn things by talking to and listening to drivers who are at the top of this class.”
