George Russell after China sprint win: ‘This is quite fun, had everything under control’

George Russell stepped out of his Mercedes with a satisfied feeling on Saturday morning after the sprint race. After 19 laps, he was flagged as the unchallenged winner. “This is quite fun! After the first laps, I had everything under control,” he admitted in an initial reaction on the grid to interviewer Ho-Pin Tung.

A bit later Russell said: “There is a lot of strategy involved this season and overtaking is not easy. Normally sprint races are quite boring, but this time we got everything well under control, even with the safety car. Lewis Hamilton did great in the first laps, but then again, he obviously has nearly twenty years of experience. The wind also played a role, so all in all it was difficult, especially managing all aspects. In the end, it was a good race, the focus now shifts to qualifying.”
