Official Formula 1 calendar 2027 announced: number of sprint races increases to ten

This season it took a little longer than usual, but on Wednesday it finally happened: the announcement of the 2027 Formula 1 calendar. Unlike the current season, the next Formula 1 year will start again in Bahrain. The number of sprint races – which was six this year – will also increase significantly: no less than ten sprint races are on the calendar, including in Monaco.

Formula 1 announced the 2027 calendar on Wednesday. Once again, 24 Grands Prix are planned, starting with the opening weekend in Bahrain. The test days prior to the season will also take place here again. After Bahrain, Formula 1 travels to Saudi Arabia before the premier class heads to Melbourne for the Australian GP.

New are the return of the Portuguese GP, which takes place in June, and the Turkish GP. The latter takes place in October, between the Grands Prix of Azerbaijan and Singapore. The season traditionally ends again in Abu Dhabi.

Ten sprint weekends

What also stands out is that the number of sprint weekends increases significantly. No less than ten times there will be sprints during the 2027 season. Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco, and Abu Dhabi will all host a sprint weekend for the first time. In addition, the format also returns to the Grands Prix in Montréal, Silverstone, Monza, São Paulo, and Qatar.
