While most Formula 1 drivers have a week off after the much-discussed Spanish GP at the Madring, Max Verstappen is traveling to Silverstone. There he faces a very different challenge: in thirty laps, the Dutch world champion must overtake a hundred opponents in karts. Verstappen starts the race, called ‘Max vs. 100’, at the back of the grid and must make his way through the entire field.

Where exactly does ‘Max vs. 100’ take place?

The kart race takes place at the Silverstone circuit but will not use the entire Grand Prix circuit. A new layout has been specially designed for the event by David Terrien, who is also the race director of the kart race. The layout prioritizes overtaking opportunities, as Verstappen must overtake a hundred opponents in thirty laps. Starting positions on the grid are determined by a qualifying session. All of Verstappen’s opponents get one fast lap to set their best time. The fastest driver starts from pole, while the Dutch world champion himself starts at the back of the grid. Once Verstappen overtakes another karter, he or she is immediately out of the race.

Who are Verstappen’s opponents?

The hundred opponents of the Red Bull driver at Silverstone include Red Bull athletes, content creators, journalists, and fans. The most dangerous opponents for Verstappen might be the Red Bull athletes who compete in other motorsport classes, such as motorcyclist Billy Bolt, enduro athlete Pol Tarrés, and motorcycle stunt rider Sarah Lezito. The karters come from all over the world and must weigh at least 85 kilograms. Drivers who do not meet this weight receive extra ballast to compensate. Verstappen can also communicate directly with his opponents during the race.
