For Lewis Hamilton, the Italian GP ended in disappointment. After a disappointing qualifying, the Ferrari hero crossed the line in sixth place. At the start, he immediately lost several positions due to a collision with Charles Leclerc. Starting from P10, he had to begin a recovery race, but the Brit struggled to make an impact against the fast Mercedes engines. In an interview with F1TV, a defeated Hamilton was reluctant to say much about the race.

“A bit of a disappointment,” sighed the seven-time world champion. “Hard to process. Lost a lot of points. In the end, we couldn’t keep up with the Mercedes engines. They were just faster.” Hamilton had already complained over the radio about the choice of the medium compound. After the race, he also criticized Ferrari’s tire choice.

“Maybe we chose the wrong tires,” he continued. “I don’t know if that would have made a difference. Maybe we could have lasted a bit longer, but in the end, everyone flew past us. They were just faster today,” he referred to the Mercedes and McLarens. When asked about the incident with Leclerc, Hamilton again responded curtly. “I dropped back to P10,” he said irritably. “There’s not much more to say about that.”
