Lewis Hamilton regrets sarcastic remarks: ‘Not the best version of myself’

Lewis Hamilton has expressed regret over his sarcastic remarks during the Dutch GP. The seven-time world champion snapped over the team radio at Ferrari in the heat of the moment, after his team did not let him pass teammate Charles Leclerc quickly enough. According to Hamilton, that ultimately cost him a chance at a podium finish, but that was no excuse for the remarks: “I will improve,” he promises.

Lewis Hamilton could only manage fourth place during the Dutch GP. The Brit was stuck behind teammate Charles Leclerc during the race, which – in his own words – ‘cost him way too much time to still overtake George (Russell, ed.) at the end’. The Mercedes driver thus did not finish on the podium.

Hamilton regrets it

Hamilton voiced his frustrations over Ferrari’s decision not to let the Brit pass his teammate over the team radio. “Great way to waste time, guys, well done,” he said sarcastically. A day later, however, the seven-time world champion regretted his remarks.

“I listened back to some of my statements on radio and TV. In the heat of the moment, frustration can come out, especially when you care as much as I do,” he writes on his own Instagram channel. “But that was not the best version of myself. I take responsibility for that and I will improve.”

The Ferrari driver is now focusing again on the upcoming races, starting with Ferrari’s home race in Monza. “My passion comes from the belief in this team, the people in it, and what we are building together,” Hamilton continues. “The course is clear. The belief is there. And the fight is absolutely not over yet. Thank you for continuing to support us and me (the fans, ed.). We keep building, keep persevering, and keep fighting.”
