George Russell finished third during the last Dutch GP at Zandvoort. The Brit had to yield to Lando Norris and teammate Kimi Antonelli. In the final phase, he gave up second place to the young Italian after a notable team order. Some frustrated words were heard over the radio, but afterwards he said it was the right choice by the team. In the end, he is satisfied with the result.
“It was a challenging start, I lost a position right at the start. These two (Norris and Antonelli, ed.) had much more pace and towards the end of the race Norris was exceptionally fast.” In the final phase, he gave up second position to his teammate, after which he had to defend himself tooth and nail against Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari. “On those old tires, that was no easy task,” grinned Russell. “I’m glad to be on the podium here, because it could easily have gone the other way.”

About the late switch with Antonelli he said: “Kimi was initially already ahead of me, so he deserved second place.” The young Italian lost P2 after a strategic tire change during the virtual safety car. “He did overtake me on his fresher tires, so it was a good call from the team. All in all, it was a strong weekend,” concluded Russell, who had already won the sprint race on Saturday. “I am pleased with the results.”
