The FIA will address next week the appeal from McLaren and Red Bull against the decision to remove a time penalty for Pierre Gasly from the results of the Monaco GP. This awarded the Frenchman third place, at the expense of, among others, Isack Hadjar and Oscar Piastri. The hearing will take place on Tuesday, August 25 at 09:00 in Paris and could possibly affect the final race results.

Gasly initially received two five-second penalties in Monaco, one of which was for exceeding the speed limit in the pit lane. Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Franco Colapinto, and Oscar Piastri also received five-second penalties for the same violation. Alpine then appealed Gasly’s penalties, after which it was found that an error had been made in determining the measurement distance. As a result, one of Gasly’s penalties was waived and he moved up from seventh to third place in the results.

This came at the expense of, among others, Isack Hadjar and Oscar Piastri, who both lost one position. The French driver was thus pushed off his first Red Bull podium. McLaren and Red Bull then decided to challenge the FIA’s decision at the International Court of Appeal. The two teams specifically appealed the decision to cancel Gasly’s penalty. The FIA will handle this on Tuesday, a few days after the Dutch GP at Zandvoort. The hearing will be held behind closed doors and is not accessible to the media.
