Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton briefly went back in time at the end of the third free practice in Monza. The two raced each other towards the first chicane, the spot where Verstappen ended up on top of Hamilton’s Mercedes car in 2021. The stewards reviewed the moment and gave their verdict after the session.

For a brief moment, it looked like 2021 again at the Monza circuit during the third free practice. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton encountered each other on the track in the final minutes of the session. The two started racing each other on the straight over the start/finish line, and it almost went wrong. On the way to the first chicane, neither gave an inch, causing Hamilton and Verstappen to nearly collide.
Stewards give verdict
Hamilton then went straight on and barely avoided the RB22. “He caused that himself,” Verstappen said over the radio about the incident. However, Hamilton disagreed: “Max was blocking me.” The stewards immediately reviewed the moment. After the session, the verdict was that no further action would be taken.
