18-year-old Arvid Lindblad always lived with the conviction that he would one day reach Formula 1. This year, his dream becomes reality as he makes his long-awaited debut for Racing Bulls. In the run-up to his rookie season, an old video of the British-Swedish driver with Lando Norris went viral: a 14-year-old Lindblad promises Norris that he will join him in the premier class in five years. In a new interview, he looks back on that now-famous interaction.

Manifesting seems to work for Arvid Lindblad! In a 2021 video, the young driver, still active in karts at the time, can be seen fearlessly approaching Lando Norris at the Adria Karting Raceway in Italy. Full of self-confidence, he shakes the McLaren driver’s hand. “Lando, I want you to remember who I am,” he says. “I’ll see you in five years.” Norris looks somewhat perplexed. “Really? Okay,” he responds. Lindblad fulfills that promise this year: after several successful seasons in the feeder series, he makes his F1 debut with Racing Bulls.
Manifesting
“I don’t know what you should call it, manifestation maybe?” Lindblad laughs in an interview with The Independent. “It’s so cool that it came true. Lando has been very friendly the few times I’ve met him. He also sent me a message immediately when it was announced that I had gotten my seat.”

“To be honest, I don’t know if it was false hope, but I always believed from the start that I would make it,” he adds. Now that he is definitely moving up to Formula 1, he is focusing on his final – and for many drivers, ultimate – goal. “I’m focused on my own performance,” he explains. “We’ll see what happens.” It is the credo of many a rookie getting their chance in the premier class. Yet he does not hide his ambitions. “I want… no, that sounds wrong,” he concludes. “I’m working hard to one day become world champion.”
