For Max Verstappen, qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix has turned into a drama. The Dutchman went off track hard in turn 1 during his first fast lap, only to end up in the wall at high speed.

It was a crash like you don’t often see with Verstappen, although the driver himself could do little to nothing about it. The rear of the RB22 completely locked up while braking for the first corner. “Fantastic,” he said cynically over the team radio after his crash. The Dutchman stepped out uninjured, although he did check his hands for damage after getting out.
Verstappen’s crash immediately caused a red flag in Q1. As a result, qualifying was halted for a while.
