Max Verstappen is not only a four-time Formula 1 world champion, but also the father of daughter Lily. The Dutch driver welcomed his daughter with partner Kelly Piquet in May 2025. In an interview with the American People, Verstappen talks about how the family expansion a year ago has also changed him personally.
“For me, it’s just really nice to be able to spend time together now,” he said at the Red Bull Energy Station in Miami. “And besides: racing is fun, it’s amazing, but it’s also nice to be at home.” Verstappen further said that since Lily’s birth there have been “no real surprises.” “I just think it’s great,” he added. “She (Lily, ed) seems to really like me, so that’s nice. We spend a lot of time together at home, so it’s just very cute.”

Different priorities
Although the life of the Red Bull driver during the Formula 1 season and with his additional racing adventures at the Nürburgring is busy enough, he also prioritizes spending time with his family. “I know what I want. I know that I also want to take time for myself and now you try, of course, after a race weekend, to go home and probably give that a bit more priority than before,” Verstappen said about how fatherhood has changed his outlook on life.
His fatherhood also makes Verstappen think about his own father Jos Verstappen, and the path they have taken together to Formula 1. According to the driver, motorsport from a parent’s perspective is ‘probably even more nerve-wracking.’ “But it’s really a cool story that we were able to do that together,” Verstappen said about the bond with his father. “It’s probably something we will think back on and cherish our whole lives. You give up a lot of your time to reach your ultimate goal, and of course we were able to achieve that together.”
