Laurens van Hoepen started the Formula 2 race at Spa-Francorchamps from sixteenth place. The Dutch driver had a successful start, but in lap nine things went wrong: Van Hoepen slid off the track, crashed into the wall, after which his Trident car caught fire. Fortunately, the driver remained unharmed.

Laurens van Hoepen was making progress when things went wrong. The Dutch Formula 2 driver ended up on the kerbstones and lost control of his car. Van Hoepen then crashed into the barriers, after which his car came back onto the asphalt and caught fire. Fortunately, the driver was able to escape in time and remained unharmed. The Formula 2 race was then stopped but has since resumed. However, the Formula 2 session at Spa is over for the Dutch driver.
