Kimi Antonelli won his third GP in a row on Sunday: after victories in China and Japan, the young Italian was also dominant in Miami. Team boss Toto Wolff is proud that his protégé excels on behalf of Mercedes, but he warns that Antonelli should not get ahead of himself. The season is still long and Wolff knows that the competition is not standing still. McLaren completed the podium in Florida and made a strong impression.

“I hope he (Antonelli, ed.) can continue this positive streak,” Toto Wolff responded after the race to Sky Sports. “The most important thing is that he does not become overconfident. We have a strong car, and let’s hope that the upgrades we introduce during the next race will help us move forward.” While most top teams brought extensive upgrade packages to Miami, Mercedes remained relatively quiet. That must change in Montreal.

Wolff emphasized that George Russell and Antonelli are evenly matched, but that the Englishman struggles with the Miami International Autodrome. “They are both fierce competitors, but Russell did not feel comfortable on this circuit this weekend. For Antonelli, it is especially important that he keeps both feet on the ground.” About the upgrades in Canada: “It is not guaranteed that new parts will actually yield time gains. Moreover, this season promises to be a development race. How much can you bring? Are you limited by the budget? All these factors play a role.”
