Max Verstappen finished the Miami Grand Prix in fifth place. The Dutchman lost control of his car in the opening lap and spun, after which he had to fight back through the midfield. Ultimately, he finished fifth due to a crucial mistake by Charles Leclerc. “It went better than the last few weekends,” said Verstappen.

Max Verstappen was allowed to start the race in Miami from second position, but according to the Dutchman, the car broke loose in the first few corners. As a result, the four-time world champion spun, but he was able to continue. “The car just broke loose entering that corner. Of course, I tried to correct it to firstly keep it out of the wall and then, once I saw how it broke loose, I tried to spin as quickly as possible,” Verstappen said in the paddock.
The Dutchman pitted early behind the Safety Car to switch to the hard tires. According to Verstappen, this was still too long a stint. “50 laps was maybe a bit too much. We still need to analyze a few things to be honest. That Safety Car came at the perfect moment, but yes, that stint on the hard tires was just too long,” said Verstappen.

Stewards
At the moment, Verstappen is still under investigation by the FIA stewards. When exiting the pit lane, the Dutchman crossed the white line, which could still result in a time penalty. According to the stewards, it is difficult to see on the onboard footage whether he crossed the white line, so they have decided to make a ruling after the race. If this results in a five-second time penalty, Verstappen will finish sixth, behind Charles Leclerc.
