Sergio Pérez is back as a driver for Cadillac after a year on the sidelines of Formula 1. Although the American team has yet to score its first World Championship point, the Mexican is so far satisfied with his performance in the Cadillac MAC-26 and the progress of his comeback. “I have been able to prove to myself that I still belong to the best,” says Pérez.
Sergio Pérez returned to Formula 1 this season with Cadillac. The Mexican was forced to sit out a year in 2025 after Red Bull decided in December 2024 not to continue with the driver. However, Pérez’s return went better than expected, he honestly tells RACER.
“I think I am performing at a very high level,” the Mexican concludes after the first half of the season. “When I returned to Formula 1, I had some doubts about that comeback, but I am really glad I did it because I have been able to prove to myself that I still belong to the best.” Although newcomer Cadillac is currently at the bottom of the constructors’ championship – with 0 World Championship points – Pérez is ‘satisfied with the level I am driving at right now’.

‘I was burnt out by Formula 1’
And that came as a surprise to the Mexican himself, since after leaving Red Bull he was done with Formula 1 for a while. “I was just a bit burnt out by the sport, by how unfair the sport can sometimes be, and I felt it was probably time to move on,” he says honestly. “But I decided to come back, I found a great challenge and I am glad I did.”
Pérez’s performances at Cadillac this season have not gone unnoticed by other teams, leading to rumors of possible interest from other racing teams in the Mexican. “It’s nice to see that interest,” Pérez responds to that attention. “I think your value always rises when you perform well. Of course, some changes can happen here and there, but for me it’s mainly about seeing what happens here in the coming months. I want to continue this challenge (with Cadillac, ed.).”
