Max Verstappen finished in an impressive third place during the Belgian GP. The Dutchman lost one position at the start, after initially taking the lead at Spa-Francorchamps. He probably did not expect a podium spot beforehand, which is why Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies felt the need to share a special thank you after the race.

“Better things are coming,” hinted the Frenchman about upgrades over the radio. “Thank you for singing it out with us.” That last remark follows the many speculations about Verstappen’s F1 future. In recent months, he has been strongly linked to a transfer to McLaren. Ahead of the Belgian GP, he stated that there is nothing to report about his future in the top class, although he could not confirm that he will fulfill his Red Bull contract next year.

The current collaboration with the Austrian team runs until 2028, but according to insiders, the Dutchman can get out of his contract through special exit clauses. These clauses would come into effect during the summer break.
