Pierre Gasly has lost his podium place for the Monaco Grand Prix again. The FIA International Court of Appeal has responded to the appeal from Red Bull and McLaren by reinstating the time penalties for the Frenchman for speeding in the pit lane in Monte Carlo. Earlier, these penalties were actually waived due to a measurement error by the FIA. Gasly’s team, Alpine, has already responded.

Although Formula 1 has already started the Grand Prix weekend in Italy, the result of the Monaco Grand Prix is still not final. It all started with the FIA’s decision to waive Pierre Gasly’s time penalties shortly after the race in the principality. The Frenchman received these for speeding in the pit lane, but it later turned out that the FIA had made a measurement error when determining the speed. Gasly was not the only victim in this. Among others, Oscar Piastri also received a penalty for a similar offense, but his penalty could not be waived. The Australian had already served it during the race.
Gasly loses podium place
Only Gasly could benefit from the waiving of his penalties and, at the expense of Isack Hadjar, still took third place after the Grand Prix. However, Red Bull and McLaren did not accept this and went to the International Court of Appeal. It decided to respond to the appeal of the two teams by reversing the waived time penalties of Gasly. As a result, the Frenchman drops back to seventh place for the GP Monaco.

Alpine responds
Alpine has already responded to the news in an official statement. Although the French team is disappointed with the decision of the FIA International Court of Appeal, the team accepts it. “Although this is not the result we hoped for, because we still feel that we were unfairly penalized in Monaco, the team is now focusing on improving performance on the circuit and competing in the title fight. The outcome will not diminish the motivation and efforts of the team to achieve our goals by the end of this season.”
