Lando Norris was the third laughing party in the battle between the Mercedes cars during the sprint in Canada. The world champion was able to take advantage of the moment when Andrea Kimi Antonelli went off track in the fight for the lead in the shortened race, and thus took second place. Despite the good result, Norris found the race pace of the Silver Arrows worrying: ‘Kimi then drove very quickly right behind me again’.

While Oscar Piastri lost a place at the start, Lando Norris was able to hold his third starting position. However, the two Mercedes cars were soon gone, so the fight for the world champion was initially mainly with the Ferraris. Until the Mercedes cars went head to head in a close fight. Thanks to Antonelli’s excursion over the grass, Norris got second place in hand. The world champion then did not let the young Italian pass anymore.

‘As McLaren we could benefit’
“It was a good race. It was nice to especially see George and Kimi fighting each other in front of me,” jokes the world champion. “But as McLaren we could benefit from it. The Mercedes cars were fast. Kimi also came very quickly close again (after the driver went off track, ed.). Then I was worried about him behind me. At the same time, I also tried to overtake George in front of me. But it was fun. It is a difficult circuit to really go flat out and it is very easy to make mistakes here. However, today was a good result for us.”
