Max Verstappen has – due to the ongoing unrest in the Middle East – no F1 obligations in April. This offers him the chance to participate in the ADAC 24h Qualifiers this coming weekend; the qualifying races for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. During these sessions, the Dutchman’s team can further prepare for the 24-hour race and already secure a spot in the ultimate qualifying round.

Although the name might suggest otherwise, the ADAC 24h Qualifiers in April do not determine the starting grid for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. These races, which will be held on April 18 and 19, are part of the NLS season and are essentially considered NLS4 and NLS5. At the same time, teams can make final preparations for the 24-hour race here, partly because the sessions take place partially in the evening and racing therefore also occurs in the dark.

While the teams do not earn starting positions, they can qualify for the decisive Top Q3 qualification in May: the ultimate session in which it is determined who gets pole position. What exactly does the coming weekend look like? The event consists of two separate qualifications, two four-hour races, and an additional top qualification on Saturday. In total, there are three Top Q3 spots to be awarded. The team that theoretically drives the fastest lap in both qualifications and in the top qualification automatically receives a ticket, as do the two teams that drive the fastest laps during both races.
