Charles Leclerc regrets his dig at Andrea Kimi Antonelli. The Monegasque complained about the Italian’s driving during the sprint race in Miami, but attributed this after the shortened race session to the adrenaline he felt at that moment. ‘I hope that in the future the friction with Kimi will lessen’, said Leclerc. ‘Especially because he is the only Italian driver on the grid against Ferrari’.

A notable moment during the sprint race in Miami: Charles Leclerc delivering a dig at Andrea Kimi Antonelli over the radio. During the early phase of the shortened race, the two drivers met on the track after the Italian again lost places due to a poor start. Although there was no contact between the two cars, the Ferrari driver complained that Kimi Antonelli had gone too far. “Kimi is so bad at fighting on the track,” came over the Monegasque’s radio. “He moved under braking. Unbelievable, we might still crash into each other like this.”
‘Only Italian on the grid’
Leclerc ultimately crossed the finish line before the Italian and took the last podium spot. After the shortened race, the Monegasque expressed regret about his remarks. “I was too mean to (Kimi Antonelli, ed.)”, he explained to the media. “That might have been because of the adrenaline in the car. It is true that we have had some friction with Kimi in the past, and I hope this will lessen in the future, especially because he is the only Italian driver on the grid against Ferrari.”

“I wish it were with someone else, and besides, I also really like Kimi as a person,” continues the Ferrari driver. “So yes, sometimes it goes a bit too far and that’s really not necessary. So in this specific case I was quite angry in the car, but the remarks were probably a bit too harsh.”
